Earth Hour 2016

Earth Hour 2016 was observed on Saturday, March 19 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. by people, communities, businesses, NGOs and others globally. They switched off the non-essential lights in their homes, buildings and business establishments. This annual event helped to promote awareness among people about the cause of protecting our mother earth from the ongoing climate change.

Mindless overexploitation of natural resources like fuel, water, forests, etc. has led to global warming. This has brought serious environment damaging effects like rising temperatures, melting of ice, rising of ocean levels, etc. To avoid such disasters and to mobilize people towards the need to protect our environment, Earth Hour was first held in 2007 in Sydney, Australia which later become a global annual phenomenon.

Different people worked differently to make Earth Hour 2016 a success. Some stressed upon adopting paperless offices, others highlighted upon using digital tools for their work.  Similarly manufacturers of solar energy street lights promoted environmental protection cause by building environment friendly, safe and efficient solar energy driven street lights for lighting up homes, streets and commercial buildings. As these lights use renewable resource in the form of solar energy for illuminating their surroundings, their use would reduce people’s dependence on electricity. This ultimately would lead to reduced exploitation of our water and energy resources being used for producing electricity through dams, coal power plants, etc..

Manufacturers of solar LED street lighting are doing their best on the eve of Earth Hour 2016 to make the benefits of the solar energy driven lighting systems, reach every environment loving individual on this earth. But people, communities and businesses too should support them in this endeavor of theirs by becoming aware about the benefits of using these lighting systems. They should invest in them for illuminating their homes, offices and business establishments. With their active support, we can together achieve our common goal of protecting our earth’s environment for our future generations.
